- Advertisements are product advertisements that use or portray hypnotic themes or elements
- Comics The difference between this category and Comic Books, for purposes of this Wiki, is that Comics are usually one or more panels, rarely longer than a single page, and are printed in conjunction with another print form, such as in a newspaper or magazine. For example, "Doonesbury" is defined as a comic, not a comic book: on the other hand, "Mandrake the Magician" is found under both Comics, where it first began publication, and Comic Books, where it had a limited success in publication.
- Comic Books On the other hand, Comic Books are published separately in their own format, whether it be in the traditional four-color format, graphic novels or bound collections. This category includes manga and web-based comics.
- Comic Book Characters is a listing of those characters with hypnotic abilities, divided into five general classes: magicians, mechanicals, mentalists, mesmerists, and miscellaneous.
- Fiction is the category for published works of fiction. If there is any question whether a work is treated as fiction or non-fiction, the determining factor is how the book was originally marketed. (For example, "The Search for Bridey Murphy", despite its detractors, is listed as nonfiction.)
- Gadgets are instruments or machines or other items designed to hypnotize or entrance people. Included in this category are advertisements for any such device, including advertisements for books and instruction manuals.
- Games from computer games to roleplaying games and everything else
- People are the people of note (or notorious) in the history of the subject of hypnosis. This includes famous hypnotists like Anton Mesmer, famous subjects like Virginia Tighe (Ruth Simmons of "The Search for Bridey Murphy" fame), and many others.
- Radio: those thrilling days of yesteryear, sitting around the radio set and using the imagination to supply the details.
- Toys includes promotional give-aways and action figures.
